In May 2007 we took a family vacation to the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
We had such a great time last year that we have made it an annual event.

We stayed at a Beach House we rented in Kailua - a quiet residential community
with lots of interesting shops and low key restaurants (9 Mb pdf).

We were less than a block from a beautiful beach. This is a panorama of Kailua Beach:

Of course we spent plenty of time on that beach and others:

The kids were also happy just to relax around the house when we were not running
around:

We also took part in a Hawaiian Luau at Sea Life Park:

One of my favorite things to do is just drive around the island and take in the natural
beauty:

May 1st is Lei day in Hawaii. We went to the Lei Day celebration in Kapiolani Park
near Waikiki:

I also went for a hike to the top of Diamond Head which has an old trail and gun
emplacements all the way to the peak.

We drove to the North Shore to see the big waves and the sites:

One afternoon we walked around downtown Honolulu and checked out the
Iolani Palace, the Hawaii State Capitol and view from Punchbowl:

This is a panorama from Punchbowl Crater which is the location
of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

Hawaii is definitely one of our favorite vacations spots.
Maybe next year we will visit Maui and work our way east through the Islands !
